Duties of the Mother of the Bride and Groom

Whether you are the mother of the bride or the mother of the groom, you will surely be asked to help out here and there! Traditionally, the Mother of the Bride has more responsibilities and more duties than the Mother of the Groom. At Eden Events, we are here to make sure that your wedding is as stress-free and easy as possible. Every wedding is different and the duties will always vary, but here are some of the common duties of the mothers of the bride and groom.

Mother of the Bride

Be a Support System

First and foremost, the mother of the bride has a very important role to play as a support system for the bride. A wedding is a stressful event that no matter how beautiful of a day it can be, requires a lot of planning! If you’re the mother of the bride, you should be there for your daughter and offer support and encouragement.

Offer input when it comes to selecting a wedding dress and other wedding attire.

Help with Planning

Even though the wedding is entirely for the bride and groom, you can offer input on venues and vendors. Offering to help book venues and to help book vendors will take so much weight off of the bride’s shoulders.

Discuss the Wedding Budget

Sometimes, the parents of the Bride and Groom offer to chip in and help pay for certain expenses. If this is on the table, all of the parents should have an open and honest discussion to work out what the parents would be comfortable with contributing to the budget.

Coordinate with the Mother of the Groom

One of the most important roles that the Mother of the Bride has is to act as the main channel of communication. Not only is the Mother of the Bride responsible for contacting the guests on their side of the family, but they are also responsible for contacting the Groom’s mother to coordinate wedding attire. Send them a sample of the fabric and color so that they can choose something that matches.

Mother of the Groom

Host the Rehearsal Dinner

The Mother of the Groom doesn’t really have too many roles to fill but there are still areas where the Mother of the Groom is still needed! One of the main duties of the Mother of the Groom is to host the Rehearsal Dinner.

This is traditionally a duty that is entrusted to the Groom’s side of the family and it is a great way to be involved with the wedding.

Create the Groom’s Guest List

As the Mother of the Groom, you can help create the guest list of people who are on your side of the family. Help select the list of people who are important to the groom.

Additionally, the Mother of the Groom can call anyone who is late on RSVPing. This will keep stress off of the Groom.

Ultimately the Mother of the Groom doesn’t have too many roles, but they can be there to support the new couple in whatever form that they need.
